Automatic Cutting System
Hambi
Thanks to the high-precision synchronization of CC-Link IE TSN, the world’s first automated system has been developed for the cutting, transport, and loading of heavy rebar mesh—processes that previously required up to six workers.

Challenges Before Implementation
-
It is difficult to automatically transport heavy, deformable rebar mesh.
Reinforcing mesh is both heavy and flexible, and when lifted, its own weight causes it to bend or shift out of position, making automation difficult. Even the slightest misalignment could cause significant problems in subsequent cutting and stacking processes. -
It is necessary to synchronize a large number of servo axes with high precision.
The system features six grippers, each operating independently on three axes, with their movements controlled by a total of 18 servo drives. In addition, since there are drives for transport, flipping, and stacking, it was necessary to precisely synchronize a large number of axes. -
Motion, image processing, and safety control must be integrated.
In order to correct deformations and misalignments in the rebar mesh in real time, it was essential not only to use servo control but also to ensure precise coordination with the image processing system and safety control system.
In particular, the image processing system provided accurate position data for the gripper.
Benefits After Implementation
-
Achieves high-precision control at the millimeter level
Thanks to CC-Link IE TSN’s high-speed, deterministic communication, even if the rebar mesh bends or shifts while being lifted, gripping and positioning can now be controlled with millimeter-level precision. -
High-precision coordination between multiple servos and image processing
CC-Link IE TSN was used to integrate drives, controllers, and image processing systems.
By dynamically adjusting the positions of the six grippers based on the mesh’s condition, the system enables control that maintains uniform tension to prevent deformation. -
Integrating Motion and Safety into a Single Network
Leverage gigabit bandwidth to connect servo drives, safety PLCs, inverters, controllers, and other devices to a single, integrated network, simplifying system design.
